PRIMEX has been engaged by Coffey International Development Ltd. (UK) for the Newton Fund Evaluation funded by the United Kingdom’s (UK) Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
The Newton Fund, and its Philippine counterpart, Newton Agham, aim to promote the economic development and welfare of partner countries through strengthening their science and innovation capacity. In each country, the partner country governments provide match funding for all Newton Fund activities to deliver against agreed UK and country priorities for science and innovation. UK funding is provided under the UK’s Overseas Development Aid (ODA) budget. The Philippine agencies, which received research grants from the Newton Fund, are the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice).
Ms. Ana Celina A. Baluyut, Senior Technical Services Officer (now the Vice President for Business Development Department), was assigned by PRIMEX as In-Country Researcher for the evaluation study. Among other tasks, she provided inputs on the strategic role of the Newton Fund in the implementation of the Philippine Development Plan. The engagement was completed in January 2018.
